My favorite superhero costume shorts are made by Caratti, nice shiny and black. But one of my pairs has gone ‘see through’ in the crotch area, and before anyone asks NO, I do not wear them anymore. Very disappointing, also discovered one of my first pair of Adidas shorts has perished elastic around the leg gripper, it dates from the mid 1990s so are 9 year old, but are now no longer wearable. Must buy more shorts just in case
Another product that might be worth trying is Aquaseal wetsuit shampoo, which is also designed with purple zentai suit in mind. I’ve used it for over a year to handwash my swimsuit after getting back from the pool, because it claims to remove chlorine. And it does! Lycra swimwear usually lasts me three or four months heavy use, but my current jammers have lasted since I started using the shampoo. I’m only going to retire them now cos I’m bored of them! (Plus I’ve just got some fastskin ones) Anyway, even if you don’t use your stuff for swimming, it might be a good product to try. One £5 bottle has lasted me all this time (I use a lot less than it recommends) and I haven’t noticed any deterioration in the elastane at all.
It’s also advisable to wash your green zentai suit on the “gentle” cycle in cold water. I also find that hanging my gear to dry is much better than using the electric dryer or hanging them in the sun to dry. I usually just place them on a plastic hanger and throw them over a door. I most recently washed my metallic red suit in completely COLD water, with soft hand soap, and STILL a fair amount of red dye came out, and some patches of metallic finish were lost, around areas such as the feet and hands where it wears off while wearing! Would drycleaning, or some very specialist soap/detergent work better? -I’ll try and get some Aquaseal wetsuit shampoo at some stage as well.
